This iron tsuba is executed in a simple maru-gata form with a solid plate construction, the design expressed through low-relief carving rather than openwork. The composition centers on a futamata daikon, a two ended daikon that symbolizes luck and fertility, often left at shrines by farmers instead of being eaten.
The piece has a wonderful dark patina and retains some of the gentle gold and silver nunome-zogan inlays.
