This iron tsuba features a delicately rendered landscape scene depicting stylized trees and low hills beneath a winding ridge. The small inlaid trees, executed in brass and silver, are arranged in groupings that evoke the rhythm of distant pines along a mountain slope. Their minimalist depiction, just simple arcs supported by fine stems, creates a sense of depth and quiet natural beauty, recalling classical Japanese ink paintings where suggestion and negative space convey mood as much as detail.

The tsuba is forged from dense, well-patinated iron with an uneven surface texture that complements the natural theme. The inlays are done in a true inlay technique, where precious metals are hammered into carved recesses, rather than applied as superficial gilding.

The combination of rustic ironwork and precious-metal detailing is suggestive of schools such as Bushu or Shoami, which often combined landscape motifs with iron grounds of strong character. The subtle asymmetry and reserved decoration also bring to mind Mito or Edo regional influences, where craftsmen blended classical nature subjects with understated technical sophistication. While unsigned, the craftsmanship and composition suggest a competent late Edo artisan working in a traditional idiom rather than a mass-produced workshop.
