A minimalist but elegant fuchi featuring stylized cranes (tsuru) in flight, rendered in fine gold hira-zōgan inlay. The dark shakudō surface provides a deep contrast against the warm metallic tones of the inlay, allowing the design to appear understated until light catches it. The crane is a traditional Japanese symbol of longevity and good fortune, commonly appearing on sword fittings made for formal or high-status mounts.
The inlays have mostly come loose, leaving ghostly bird shadows beautiful in their own right.
This piece is unsigned.
