The fuchi is decorated with a large chrysanthemum bloom flanked by stylized wave-like curves. The chrysanthemum, a symbol of longevity, imperial authority, and autumn, was a revered motif in samurai fittings. Its pairing with flowing water imagery creates a balance of strength and transience, evoking both the endurance of the warrior class and the inevitability of nature’s cycles.
This piece is worked in base copper yamagane, foiled with a shakudo foil in the traditional fashion. The foil shows wear and tear from centuries of age, and there is some distortion to the fuchi sides as well.
This piece is unsigned.
