Type: Fuchi
Material: Shakudo with gold nunome inlay
Period: Edo (18th–19th century)
Mass: 15.3 g
The design features chrysanthemum blossoms and scrolling tendrils in fine gold wire nunome-zōgan (applied as thin inlay over the surface), set against a nanako (fish roe) ground. The chrysanthemum, or kiku, was a favored motif of longevity and imperial association, while the arabesque scrolls add elegance and continuity to the design. The contrast between the dark shakudo patina and the gold inlay creates a striking decorative effect.
The nanako is well-executed and regular. The gold inlay is worn in places but overall well-preserved.
This piece is unsigned.
