This single menuki depicts a camellia blossom with accompanying buds along a slender branch, executed in mixed metals with gilt highlights on the flower and bud tips. The central blossom shows layered petals in high relief, with fine chisel work used to define the inner stamen cluster. The surrounding buds are similarly accented with gilt, contrasting with the darker patination of the branch and leaves. The motif of camellia (tsubaki) was common in Edo-period fittings and associated with purity and seasonal beauty. The reverse displays a single mounting post with worn patination inside the recessed cavity, consistent with Edo-period construction.
