Collection: Kogatana

These small utility knives were carried by samurai to use for everyday tasks. Often fitted into a small pocket in the sheath of the sword they were carrying, the knife can be removed without drawing the blade. These were often made of leftover steel from the swordmaking process, but were not treated with the same extreme reverence as nihonto despite their similar construction and sometimes interesting hamon.
